⚖️ Research Spotlight: Justice Unserved

A new research brief by Crashfree India highlights a critical gap:

👉 Most road crash victims in India never receive compensation.

Titled “Justice Unserved,” the brief maps where the system breaks — from low awareness and delays to complex legal processes and unequal access.

Drawing on insights from practitioners across law, police, insurance, and policy, the report shows that the issue isn’t just road safety — it’s post-crash justice.

The team has also begun documenting 120+ victim experiences and is piloting solutions like hospital helpdesks and AI-based support tools, alongside working with Gurugram Police to improve claim access.

PPI Signs Its First-Ever MoU — with RV University, Bengaluru

Five years ago, PPI started as a small community of people who cared about policy. This week, we signed our first-ever formal Memorandum of Understanding with RV University—an 8-decade-old institution in Bengaluru.

The partnership focuses on supporting RV University’s students in the years ahead with capacity building, training, and careers support in the policy and governance space.

For a community-driven platform that’s just five years old, this feels like a milestone worth pausing on. We’ve more than doubled our work, partnerships, and reach in just the past six months—and this MoU is a signal of what’s ahead.

India’s Rising Climate–Health Risks

The Lancet Countdown 2024: India Data Sheet highlights a steep rise in climate-related health pressures. In 2023, people were exposed to 2,400 hours of heat-stress risk—nearly 100 unsafe days outdoors. Heat exposure led to 181 billion lost labour hours and US$141 billion in potential income losses, with agriculture hit the hardest. At the same time, 42.7% of India’s land experienced at least one month of severe drought, and dengue transmission potential has climbed 85% since the 1950s. These trends make clear the need for health-focused climate action and stronger protections for vulnerable communities.

PPI at the CommonHealth Think Tank meeting & Project Kaleidoscope Launch

PPI joined partners in Goa for the in-person convening of Kaleidoscope: Reclaiming Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights and Justice for All, an initiative anchored by ARROW, GFW, WGNRR, MAMA Network and India-based partners including SAHAJ, RUWSEC and CommonHealth.

As the Kaleidoscope Project Consultant, PPI is leading the political landscape analysis on abortion and SRHR in India. At the Goa convening, we presented early insights from this analysis to the wider collective, setting the stage for deeper research, evidence building and coordinated advocacy through 2026–2029.
