"Environmentally friendly" is a scam
Policy Post #103
Editor’s Note ✍️
I bought a t-shirt from a popular fast fashion store last month but only recently realized it had a label stitched on its side saying “This garment was made with love”, indicating that it was a part of their sustainability collection. You might have seen a bunch of private corporations adding a sustainability/climate-conscious lens to their work in recent years. Here’s some news: most of it is a scam - more specifically “greenwashing”; an unsubstantiated claim that portrays something as environmentally friendly when it might not be.
Learn more about why most of what we see in the media as 'Environmentally Friendly' is essentially not so green at all in our #PolicyCharcha section below, along with a bunch of other cool stuff as always (fellowships, op-eds, jobs…you know the drill).
With that, we bring to you: Policy Post #103!
This Week’s Policy Focus 🔎
Suresh Kumar writes: With the promulgation of the SDGs, sustainability debate became more prominent in matters concerning governance and public policy but the achievements reflecting sustainable development through private and public sector projects and schemes are too meagre. Sustainability dimensions are neither understood nor codified as per the governance requirements and aspirations. Governments have not formulated sustainability codes, and short-term political priorities and bureaucratic expediency overshadow the pillars of sustainability.
