This Week’s Policy Focus 🔎
Only 40% of India's urbanites have access to high-capacity public transport (metros, trains), while access to buses/taxis sits at 90%. Two-thirds of households lack private vehicles, heavily relying on public transport. However, access varies significantly across states. For buses/taxis, top states outperform bottom states by 20%. This disparity widens to over 40% for metros/trains. Expanding public transport is crucial for reducing car reliance, emissions, and ensuring equitable mobility for all.

👉🏽 WEF's case for investing in women's health
The World Economic Forum's new research has revealed that closing the women's health gap could unlock USD 400 billion in global GDP annually by 2040. They launched the Women's Health Impact Tracking platform to monitor and bridge women's health gaps and identified key health conditions and actions to improve women's health outcomes.
👉🏽 Budget 2025: A climate taxonomy
The Budget 2025 announcement to establish a climate taxonomy aims to guide investments towards sustainable growth. The taxonomy will classify economic activities in alignment with India's climate goals, supporting climate finance and mitigating greenwashing. This step aligns with India's international commitments, enhancing transparency and investor confidence while fostering green infrastructure development.
