Jaipur Policy Circle, CFI Research Spotlight, + PPI Talks
Policy Post #227
Dear Reader,
We often think of policy in terms of design and intent. But its real test lies in implementation — in whether systems are accessible, responsive, and equitable for the people they are meant to serve.
This week’s edition brings together an upcoming Policy Circle in Jaipur, a research brief examining gaps in road crash compensation in India, and a recent PPI campus conversation in Coimbatore. Together, they reflect how policy is shaped not just through institutions, but through people, practice, and lived realities.
As always, you will also find resources and opportunities at the end of the newsletter.
Let’s get into it.

🎓 Thinking About Structured Learning in Policy?
Policy Circles are a great starting point — but if you’re ready to go deeper, the Master’s Programme in Public Policy (MPP) at the Kautilya School of Public Policy is currently accepting applications.
This two-year residential programme focuses on understanding how policies are designed, implemented, and shaped by political and institutional realities.
KSPP offers scholarships for eligible candidates, and applicants applying through PPI may be considered for fee waivers depending on the school’s evaluation, including academics, interview performance, and financial background.
📌 If you apply via PPI, be sure to mention us as your reference to be considered for the waiver.
⚖️ Research Spotlight: Justice Unserved
A new research brief by Crashfree India highlights a critical gap:
👉 Most road crash victims in India never receive compensation.
Titled “Justice Unserved,” the brief maps where the system breaks — from low awareness and delays to complex legal processes and unequal access.
Drawing on insights from practitioners across law, police, insurance, and policy, the report shows that the issue isn’t just road safety — it’s post-crash justice.
The team has also begun documenting 120+ victim experiences and is piloting solutions like hospital helpdesks and AI-based support tools, alongside working with Gurugram Police to improve claim access.
🎤 PPI Talks! — Coimbatore
PPI recently engaged with students at Hindustan College of Arts and Science, Coimbatore, exploring what careers in public policy and development can look like in practice.
From navigating career pathways to understanding how policy intersects with real-world challenges, conversations like these aim to make the field more accessible to young people across contexts.

Peatlands are among the world’s most effective natural carbon sinks, capable of storing large amounts of carbon dioxide over long periods. However, they are increasingly being drained for energy production and agriculture, leading to significant emissions and ecosystem loss.
Across regions — from Finland to the United States — researchers and communities are working to restore these landscapes. The challenge lies in balancing conservation with livelihoods, especially for farmers and local economies dependent on these lands.
