To All The Women in Public Policy 👩
The Policy Post #86
Editor’s Note ✍️
A large and growing gender gap exists in the labour force in India. Now more than ever, we need more women joining the formal workforce, and we need people and organisations actively enabling this. One such group of women started an organisation called Women in Econ/Policy (WiEP). This newsletter edition brings to you a special partnership with WiEP. As you scroll, you’ll find an exclusive episode of Policy Panchayat with the WiEP founders on opportunities, careers and mentorship for women in public policy! Along with that, you’ll also get access to a special mentorship programme and all of WiEP’s resources 📙
With that, we bring you Policy Post #86
This Week’s Policy Focus 🔎
From 3Fs to 4Fs – The Functionality Conundrum
Cities are the engines of growth for any nation. In the context of India, this is particularly true. Over 60% of our GDP is contributed by the cities. But a moot question arises with the burgeoning urban population – is our urban governance landscape capacitated enough to deal with the myriad challenges that come with the mushrooming cities?

Women in Econ/Policy 👩
Women in Econ/Policy is a non-profit set up with the aim of creating a free and inclusive space for women in the fields of economics, public policy and adjacent fields.
We also aim to create a platform for accessible knowledge, skills, data workshops and job/internship opportunities. We frequently organize sessions by women from across the research and policy spectrum. Speakers share their experiences in leading organizations, conducting cutting-edge research, and working as and with policy makers, among other things. These sessions are recorded and are openly accessible on our website. Along with events, the Women in Econ/Policy Newsletter monthly curates content on gender focused research ideas and the work being carried out across the globe in these spaces.
In April 2022, WiEP launched the podcast BTS : Behind The Scenes of Economic Research which is aimed at providing increased visibility to women researchers in the field of economics. Those interested to become part of the WiEP community and get regular updates about their upcoming events, newsletters and workshops, can sign up to be part of their Whatsapp and email group here. Stay tuned with all their events on Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn and get updates here!
Young Women in Economics Program:
Women in Econ/Policy has launched the second cohort of The Young Women in Economics Program - a 6 month professional mentorship program. The program starts in August 2022, and is designed to support young women in their career goals. Through this program we will curate resources, provide mentorship and support women graduating from bachelor's or master's programs in Economics in applications for jobs and graduate programs.
Applications are now open for both mentors and mentees, till the 26th June, 2022. For more details about the program, the Information Session for the program is freely accessible here.

You won’t believe it, but it’s cheaper than a cup of coffee to support our work☕
We're an entirely community-funded platform with a singular goal in mind - to bring fresh policy insights to our readers, create career opportunities, and help thousands more build thriving careers in the policy space in India.
For it to happen without anyone having to pay for it and for all of our work to remain freely accessible, do consider buying us a coffee (or two!). Contribute as little as Rs. 75 and help us sustain our work and grow it in the times to come. Thank you :)
